Consequences of a DUI

Consequences of a DUI

As you can probably imagine, the consequences of a DUI conviction are severe. In terms of expense alone, a defendant could spend several thousands of dollars resolving the situation. This includes hiring a defense attorney, paying penalties and fees, paying for the required counseling and education courses and paying increased automobile insurance rates that will likely be three to five times their current amount.

A license suspension means relying on others to get to work and everywhere else. This can cause additional expense and/or strain between the defendant and family and friends.

If a defendant’s employment is dependent upon a clean criminal record (such as law enforcement, teachers, etc.) careers may end.

A DUI conviction is 100% preventable and driving under the influence is a dangerous practice that can only hurt you, your loved ones or undeserving strangers
