Online razor supplier The Dollar Shave Club is being sued by Gillette in federal court for alleged patent infringement. The lawsuit was filed on Thursday in the United States District Court in Delaware.

Gillette is claiming that The Dollar Shave Club is offering products that infringe upon its patented technology. This shaving technology includes blade coatings that are used on iconic Gillette products, such as the Mach 3, Venus and Fusion razors.

Gillette is based out of Boston, and is a subsidiary of Procter and Gamble. According to Gillette, the company owns all rights, title and interest expressed within the patent.

The Dollar Shave Club is based out of Venice, CA. A spokesperson for the company said that they are looking into the lawsuit and that they would not provide a comment at this time.

The products from The Dollar Shave Club that have been identified in the lawsuit are marketed as The Humble Twin, The 4X and The Executive. Gillette says that these products contain patented technology of their own razors.

In filing the lawsuit, Gillette is seeking damages, as well as an injunction to stop The Dollar Shave Club from selling any more of the razors in question.

Chief legal officer of Procter & Gamble Deborah P. Majoras said in a press release, “We have long invested heavily in innovation, and our talented scientists have dedicated their careers to delivering the best shaving experience possible for men and women around the world. Our patents help protect the many technical advancements we’ve made through the years, and when it becomes necessary, we take action to protect these important assets.”

The Dollar Shave Club was originally launched in 2012. The company offers subscription plans for razors that cost as little as $1 per month. The company also offers non-razor products, and it has raised more than $150 million in funding. Earlier this year, Gillette also started offering a subscription razor service.
