The recent attack on a Russian airliner that killed 224 people has people deeply concerned, and investigators are still looking into the matter. A new report says that a bomb was placed inside the cargo hold before the plane took off.

At the present time, the British government has suspended all flights to and from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. The suspension has been ongoing for the past two days. Other countries such as France and Belgium have enacted similar suspensions.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials from Russia and Egypt have said that it is too early to draw conclusions. The flight was traveling from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, Russia. Most of the passengers on the flight were Russian.

Currently, thousands of people on vacation remain stranded in the Sharm el-Sheikh because of the suspension of flights. According to the Egyptian Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal, the airport is experiencing issues of capacity because of extra security and grounded planes.

This recent attack has put a major damper on the tourism industry in Sharm el-Sheikh. The area had widely been seen as a safe haven from terrorism in the surrounding areas. If people begin to label the area as dangerous, its economy will certainly suffer.

The original reports indicated that the plane was likely shot down using anti-aircraft weapons. The theory of a planted bomb is a relatively new development.

There currently exists no definitive proof that ISIS caused the attack. The terrorist organization is not known to possess weapons that can bring down a commercial aircraft at high altitudes, but a bomb would be within their capabilities. ISIS has not stated how exactly they destroyed the aircraft.

However, recent reports have stated that ISIS might have been able to obtain such weapons from rebel groups in Syria. The United States recently started providing rebel groups with these types of weapons.

Of course, the confirmation of a bomb in the cargo hold would change the outlook completely. Investigators have largely ruled out the possibility of a technical fault of the aircraft.

The leading theory right now is that someone who had access to the baggage compartment of the aircraft placed an explosive device shortly before the airplane departed.

According to United States President Barack Obama, he believes that it’s very possible that there was a bomb on the airplane. He says that officials are taking the investigation very seriously.
