The notorious hacker organization Anonymous has struck again, this time targeting the polarizing Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump. The businessman’s website for his trademark Trump Towers was taken offline for roughly an hour on Friday. The activist hacking group proceeded to denounce the presidential candidate for his offensive comments against Muslims.
Trump often uses the website for the 68-story Trump Towers to promote his presidential campaign. Users who tried to visit the website were greeted with the “offline backup” message.
Meanwhile, Anonymous took to Twitter to declare that the Trump Towers website had been taken down as a statement against racism and hatred. Earlier this week, the hacking organization posted a video on YouTube that offered a very clear message for the presidential candidate.
The message read, “Donald Trump think twice before you speak anything. You have been warned Mr. Donald Trump.”
Representatives for Trump Towers have not yet commented on the situation.
The warning to Donald Trump came just days after the billionaire presented his idea of temporarily denying Muslims from entering the United States. Trump made these comments in response to last week’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA that left 14 people dead.
A recent poll showed that Americans haven’t been this fearful of a terrorist attack since the weeks following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. While Trump’s comments are highly controversial, they are playing into the fears of many Americans, giving him almost as much support as he has hatred. The Republican candidate is at an all-time high right now, despite him being relentlessly criticized by the media.
Anonymous has been quite active as of late. Recently, they took down the website of the Japanese Prime Minister in response to their controversial whaling practices. They have also been known for the cyberattacks against terrorist groups like the Islamic State, which was heavily attacked following the terrorist attacks in Paris last month.
