Across the globe, there is a countless number of tourist attractions, both natural and man-made. While it is hard pressed to name just one attraction as the “world’s best,” there are a few that consistently rank among the most sought-after.

Tianmen Mountain Sights

Arguably the most popular site on Tianmen Mountain is The Cliff-Hanging Walkway,  built along the edges of the mountain. The highest part of the walkway includes a glass walkway known as the Walk of Faith and is sure to test any traveler’s bravery.

This skywalk is set about 4,700 feet above sea level on the side of the mountain, from which traveler’s can experience gorgeous views.

While one side of the walkway is the sheer rock of the mountain, the other side overlooks a 4,000 drop. Between the rock and the handrail is a 2 ½ inch walkway three feet wide.

If you do not wish to look over the side, just look down, because the walkway is crystal-clear and shows you just how far up you are. The thrilling walk certainly makes you feel as if you are walking in the sky.

Touring the Mountain

The mountain can also be toured by riding the world’s longest cable car ride, which lasts about 30 minutes and travels a little over four miles. The last part of the cable car ride is very steep, traveling over sheer cliffs and deep drops.

From the cable car, tourists are treated to views of the mountains as well as what is known as the 99 Bends – 99 very sharp curves on a road that leads to the top of the mountain.

At the top of the mountain is Tianmen Cave, which is a large, famous hole between two mountain peaks created over time by water erosion. To reach the cave, it is best to take a tourist bus along the 99 Bends (not recommended if you get carsick.)

Once you reach the top, you climb 999 narrow steps up a steep climb – known as the Stairway to Heaven. Once there, you can view Heaven’s Door.

If that doesn’t both terrify and excite you, what else will? Book your post-pandemic adventure and check out the beautiful Tianmen Mountain!
