It goes without saying that Kanye West and Taylor Swift have had a troubled relationship over the years. It all dates back to the shocking incident at the 2009 Video Music Awards when Kanye famously interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech. Now, Kanye has taken to his music in order to once again diss Taylor Swift in a very public fashion.
At Kanye’s recent Yeezy fashion show and listening party for his new album titled The Life of Pablo, the rapper showcased the lyrics for the song Famous. Like many of Kanye’s songs, it does nothing to hide his tremendous ego, putting it on full display for everyone to see.
The lyrics of the song include, “For all my Southside niggers who will know me best, I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous. God damn. I made that bitch famous.”
Needless to say, many people were shocked and appalled by the rapper’s word choice. Most notably, many of those close to Taylor Swift were particularly hurt by the song. Perhaps most shockingly, Kanye actually tried to have the song make its worldwide debut on Taylor’s personal Twitter account.
A spokesperson for Taylor Swift said, “Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.’”
Taylor has not made any public statements about Kanye’s new song, instead preferring to take the high road and keep quiet. But this hasn’t stopped Taylor’s friends from rallying to her defense. One of whom was Jamie King, who was actually in attendance and Kanye’s Yeezy event.
King wrote on Twitter, I’m so sad right now & disappointed right now. I stand by my sister. Always.”
Gigi Hadid, who was also at the show, wrote on her account, “My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty.”
Taylor’s family also supported her, with her brother Austin taking to Instagram to show a picture of grey Yeezy 350 boots sitting in the garbage. An added caption said, “Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again.”
