Netherlands Okays Driving Lessons In Exchange For Sex

In the Netherlands, driving instructors have been told that they are legally allowed to essentially exchange driving lessons for sexual intercourse. The Dutch Parliament was presented with the issue when an official asked if a driving student offering an instructor sex as a payment was considered to be prostitution.

Although prostitution is legal in the Netherlands, in such an instance, it wouldn’t be properly taxed. Ultimately, two ministers ruled that it isn’t prostitution as long as the instructor is the party making the offer of sexual intercourse as a form of compensation.

The ministers wrote, “It is important that the initiative lies with the driving instructor and focuses on offering a driving lesson.”

Many are referring to the practice as a “ride for a ride”. Still, there are some requirements that have been put into place. For instance, both the offering driving instructor and the accepting student must be over the age of 18 years old. Also, the intercourse must be done in a safe manner that isn’t harmful to the instructor, the student or the public.

Furthermore, the ruling likely opens the door for people in professions beyond just driving instructors. Dutch citizens can expect requests from computer technicians, handymen, cab drivers and more. Needless to say, this could lead to some highly creative adult films.

In the Netherlands, prostitution is legal as long as the escort has a valid license and pays taxes on a self-employment basis. The recent ruling should broaden the scope of how escorts can offer their services. Although the escorts aren’t legally allowed to flaunt their services in the “ride for a ride” situations, one would expect that this will largely be overlooked.

Of course, not everyone is happy with this ruling. Members of the conservative Christian Union Party have stated that this practice of sex as an agreed payment is immoral, and it should remain illegal.

But supporters of the policy have said that sex isn’t being used as a payment. Instead, one person is merely offering a free driving lesson for the other person, and the two people just happen to have sex afterwards. That is why it is important that the driving instructor makes the offer of sex.

So while there’s no telling yet if the ride for a ride policy will become very popular, it does give Dutch citizens a new way to accept compensation.
