Virgin women are now able to give birth, thanks to the wonders of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Four major fertility organizations in Great Britain have produced successful births using the method. Doctors say that there have been at least 25 successful IVF births during the last five years.
The program has been a success for women who want to have a child now without engaging in sexual intercourse. It costs a woman around $10,000 to conceive a child using this method.
Some women are utilizing IVF because they want to save their virginity for the right relationship. Other women have a fear of sexual intercourse. Many of these women are only in their twenties. They often maintain ordinary jobs, or they are still in school. Some still live with their parents.
However, the fertility treatments have been criticized by certain religious groups. They believe that it undermines the importance of raising children in a traditional marriage.
Medical director Maha Ragunath says, “The number of single women I see has doubled over the last decade and single women now account for at least ten per cent of my patients.”
Ragunath has provided successful treatments for three virgin women during the previous three years. One required multiple rounds of IVF in order to achieve the desired result. Another was still living at home with her parents. The third was an ordinary nurse who simply didn’t want to wait around for the right man to come along.
Some of the British organizations offering this method of conception to women include: London Women’s Clinic, Create Fertility, and the Assisted Reproduction and Gynecology Center. The British National Health Service does not provide funding for this treatment.
Meanwhile, senior fertility counsellor at the London Women’s Clinic Tracey Sainsbury says that she saw an average of two virgin women a year who wanted to have a child using IVF.
“Some have never had a relationship, others have been in a relationship but never had sexual intercourse, some are single lesbian women; for others there may be psychological or medical reasons why they have never had sex,” she stated.
However, many people aren’t as approving.
For instance, pro-life campaigner Josephine Quintavalle said, “What is the child for these women? A teddy bear that they pick off the shelf? The message from nature is for a male and female to have a child, and I am saddened that we are willing to distort this.”
Additionally, many religious leaders are frowning at IVF conception.
Bishop James Newcome said, “The ideal is that a child has a mother and a father who are married to each other. All the evidence shows that is the best context for a child.”
Whether or not you agree with this revolutionary conception method, it’s hard not to be amazed at what science is able to accomplish in today’s day and age.
