Wikileaks has recently revealed that a message sent to the United States Treasury Department by former Secretary of State and current Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton referenced alleged financial donations that were made by Saudi Arabia in order to support and fund various terrorist groups. Many of these terrorist groups that received funding from Saudi Arabia are currently fighting against forces of the United States and other Western allies.

Clinton said in the leaked message, “Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide. Continued senior level USG engagement is needed to build-on initial efforts and encourage the Saudi government to take more steps to stem the flow of funds from Saudi Arabia-backed sources to terrorists and extremists worldwide. Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) and other terrorist groups, including Hamas, which probably raise millions of dollars annually from Saudi sources.”

Officials from Saudi Arabia have long insisted that they are working hard to combat terrorism throughout the world. However, many people refute this, stating that the Islamic State largely receives funding from Saudi Arabia. It is unknown as to where ISIS receives its funding and who exactly is responsible, but Saudi Arabia is a major suspect.

Additionally, Clinton stated that the government of Saudi Arabia has only taken limited action to fight against international terrorism. According to Clinton, the Saudi Arabian government has not done much to disrupt the funding of terrorism, and the country is allowing various extremist groups to promote instability in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The lack of effort from Saudi Arabia is undermining the work of the United States to achieve stability in these two countries.

Hillary Clinton has not yet commented on these messages, as she is currently focused on her presidential bid. Still, expect these issues to arise in her upcoming interviews.
