Ghostbuster fans rejoice! It has been announced that the full trailer for the highly-anticipated new Ghostbusters film will make its debut online on March 3rd.
The film, which is directed by Paul Feig, is set to open in theatres on July 15th. The movie stars Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones as the Ghostbusters. Fans who wanted to see a female crew of Ghostbusters will certainly not be disappointed.
Other characters include Chris Hemsworth as the secretary and Andy Garcia as New York’s Mayor. Also, Michael K. Williams is set to play a character called “Hawkins”, Matt Walsh will play a fellow named “Rourke” and Neil Casey is set to take on the role as the villain of the movie. Interestingly, New York City’s NY1 news anchor Pat Kiernan will take on somewhat of a self-portrayed role, as he will play a news anchor in the film.
Feig said of the upcoming movie, “I’m having a lot of fun playing with genres… I love the original film, but I also just love the idea of busting ghosts and kind of paranormal warriors. I thought, ‘You know, if I could do this with the funny women I know and kind of just do a new origin story…’ I’m more interested in what would happen today. You know, you see things on TV about ghosts, but none of it’s real. What if, suddenly, something started happening? What happens when that just begins to happen to people? Also, how do they develop their technology? It’s not as fun if they’re just handed their proton packs. It’s why it’s not as fun to do a sequel. The fun is getting there.”
Feig wrote the script for the new Ghostbusters along with Katie Dippold. The original Ghostbusters film premiered in 1984, and the sequel was released in 1989. The 2016 film will represent the first Ghostbusters movie in more than 27 years.
