Brad Pitt is Granted Custody Despite Jolie’s wishes

According to Page Six, Jolie did not object to the ruling, however she had different concerns.

Jolie criticized the judge for not allowing the children to testify. Additionally, she tried to disqualify the judge from the case due to his prior professional relationships with members of her ex-husbands team.

According to the Associate Press, Angelina Jolie’s filing said the judged has “refused to hear the minor teenagers’ inputs as to their experiences, needs or wishes as to their custody fate.”

Additionally, citing a California code that says children 14 and over are allowed to testify if they want to.

Jolie also claimed the judge has declined to hear evidence that stated she deemed relevant to the children’s overall safety.

In an interview with Vogue, Jolie said that she left the marriage for the well-being of her family. She went on to describe her children as “very brave, very strong young people.”

Ups & Downs of through the relationship

The divorce has been both very public and private over the past few years. With plenty of speculation regarding the couple formerly known as Brangelina.

Despite Pitt being married to Friends star Jenifer Aniston, the pair began seeing each other. It wasn’t long before Aniston filed for divorce in 2005, leaving Pitt and Jolie to be together.

By 2006, Jolie confirmed her pregnancy with their first child. Within the same year, Pitt formally adopted her son Maddox and daughter Zahara. All their children took the surname Jolie-Pitt.

Their biological child, Shiloh was born May 2006 and adopting their son Pax by 2007. By 2008 the couple welcomed twins, Knox and Vivienne.

Engaged After Almost 10 years together

Jolie and Pitt announced their engagement April 2012 and had a ceremony in France in August 2014. Although, the pair filed for divorce only 2 years later in September 2016.

An altercation took place on the couple’s private jet, which, unfortunately led to their eldest son Maddox getting involved. In the end this led to a child abuse investigation into Pitt.

Divorce Begins to Take Its Toll

In 2017 the pair began speaking again, however divorce still loomed in the background. Although, they both seem to agree that court only ends in hurt and destruction.

“Fortunately my partner agrees in this. It’s very, very jarring for the kids to suddenly have their family ripped apart.”

November 2018, the duo avoided trial over custody. They both agreed on joint physical and legal custody of the children.

Fast forward to 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic slowed the legal proceedings. August of 2020, when Jolie requested to disqualify the judge.

In court documents Jolie’s attorney accused Pitt’s legal team of “going behind her back” to cover up judicial bias.

Jolies attorney said that she sought divorce “for the health of the family”. Believed to have caused further delays Jolie’s, objections may have interfered in reaching a custody arrangement.

Now with the divorce and custody battle wrapped up, the two can move on and live their lives. Hopefully this brought them some peace of mind and for their children’s sake too.
