CDC has lifted the mask mandates for many states! However, others are cautious about the new CDC guidance prompts. Here is everything you need to know!
It has been over a year of COVID-19 and many Americans are simply, over it. Nevertheless, we still need to do our part and follow the restrictions set in place.
On Thursday, federal health officials decided that fully vaccinated folks, can say goodbye to the mandatory mask mandates. Many states led by Republicans have already loosened the masking rules. While other states proceed with caution.
“If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic.” Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, the director of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said at a White House Conference.
What States Still Require the Mask Mandate?
However, some states have decided the new guidance will be under advisement before adopting to it. If you live in these states, hold on to the masks a little while longer.
- Massachusetts
- New York
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- Virginia.
Local authorities in these states have stated that vaccinated people must abide by the existing local regulations and follow the rules.
Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo states “mask mandates will still be important for schools, public transportation, doctors offices and more.”
Los Angeles County Department of Pubic Health said “the county and state will review the recommendations in order to make sensible adjustments.”
How Will This Impact Essential Workers?
Many businesses will still require mandatory masks. Macy’s, Target and the Gap have all said they are reviewing the new Guidance. However, if you’re shopping at Home Depot, the mask mandate will still be in full affect.
The United Food and Commercial Workers union criticized the CDC for unsuccessfully considering how this new policy would affect workers who deal with customers who are not vaccinated.
“Millions of Americans are doing the right thing and getting vaccinated, but essential workers are still forced to play mask police for shoppers who are unvaccinated and refuse to follow local Covid safety measures.” Marc Perrone, the union’s president said in a statement.
Additionally, Retail Leaders Industry Association made a similar statement, “These conflicting positions put retailers and their employees in incredibly difficult situations.”
What If You Have Symptoms and Are Fully Vaccinated ?
Dr. Walensky of the CDC said that anyone who develops symptoms, even if they are vaccinated, must still use masks and get tested.
Furthermore, in another statement, Dr. Walensky said the CDC was working quickly on new recommendations for public settings such as summer camps and travel.
